For some people, Valentine's Day is the best holiday of the year. For others, it's the most dreaded day. Those of us who are single are publicly reminded of how single they are, and those in love have an excuse to show a little more love or to have a night out.

Today's post is actually of a list of tips, inspired by love, that I think will help you add more love to your career. One of our alumni, Nate Bagley, is my source of inspiration for tips to have love in everything you do.

I have never met Nate, but I have read about his Loveumentary project. I was intrigued by the idea of documenting love stories, and even more that he is a UVU Communication Alumni.

Nate has gone across the country, with the help of a friend Melissa Kong, to find and document some of America's greatest love stories. Both Nate and Melissa had to give up a lot to be able to make this dream possible.

Just today he received a lot of press on Reddit and KSL for his new project, Unbox Love.

This goes to show that lots of success can come to those who have love inspiring their work. Here are some other qualities and tips for being a successful PR professional that I've observed from many, including Nate and Melissa:

1. Love what you Do

It's very obvious that Nate and Melissa love this project. In some of their blog posts and podcasts they've talked about how there are hard times, but they've kept going because they love what they're doing. People can tell when you're passionate about what you do. They will want to work with you when you show enthusiasm and love for the projects you work on.

2. Dream Big

You never know what could happen in your life. If you don't start out with dreams or goals in mind, you could be very disappointed when your life just turns out to be average. Set a big goal and then little goals to help you get there.

3. Work Hard

Nothing comes easily anymore. If you want to make something happen, you have to put the work into it. Sometimes it takes all sorts of resources, including money, time and talents. If you're willing to put effort into your projects or your clients as a PR professional, you will be an invaluable asset.

4. Speak the way your audience speaks

This may seem like a no-brainer for PR, but if you want your message to be heard, you have to speak to your audience the way they speak. Social media sites are flooded with company profiles because they know that's where their audience is. The Loveumentary has podcasts, blog posts and quotes on their website, as well as their social media profiles. Their audience is very large, and so they have to reach them in all the ways their audience speaks.

5. Don't Give Up

From The Loveumentary's Quote page:

When you do what you fear most, then you can do anything!
— Stephen Richards

You aren't going to succeed the first time you do something. Be brave and keep trying.

I hope you feel inspired to keep loving public relations. I know it's hard to see the benefits of  what you do right away, but I know that it is worth it in the end. These tips can apply to every aspect of our lives. Remember that love is not just romance. It can be in everything you do.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Love,
